British & Irish Lions tickets

NEWS: 07/01/2012 - Warren Gatland says he wiuld love a role with the 2013 British & Irish Lions if he can obtain approval from the Welsh Rugby Union. The New Zealand-born coach was part of Sir Ian McGeechan's coaching set-up during the 2009 tour to South Africa and has since led Wales to a fourth place finish in the 2011 World Cup.

The British & Irish Lions and Australia also contest the series for the Tom Richards Trophy. This Trophy is named after the only player to play for both teams - for Austraila in 1908 and then for the Lions in 1910. This incredible man also won the Military Cross during World War I.

The British Lions have played the Barbarians once before - 10/09/1977 when the Barbarians lost to the British Isles 23-14 .... will the match in Hong Kong go the same way?

Although combined British Teams started touring in 1888, it was not until 1910 that the first offical British Lions tean set off for South Africa and Argentina.
However the first unoffical match was on 28th April 1988 when the British Lions face Otago and won 8-3. The first International came a year later on 30th July 1891 when the British Lions beat South Africa 4-0.

The Lions Tour will start in Hong Kong with a match against the Barbarians & then onto Australia where there will be 10 games in total - 7 provincial matches & 3 Test matches. Besides Perth, Sydney, Brisbane & Melbourne are likely to be included as match venues, along with Cairns, Townsville, Newcastle & Canberra.
